2009 Lodge Officers Elected At LLD

The 2008 LLD: Survive! was held October 24-26. In the morning, trainings were held on topics ranging from Elangomats to NOAC 2009. Mike Douglas from the Maine Primitive Skills School came in to talk about Traditional Perspectives on Service, Honoring the Vision, and Developing the Upright Mind of an Arrowman. In the afternoon, a team from the Maine Search and Rescue Dogs demonstrated search and rescue techniques by finding Dakota Douglas, who camouflaged himself with charcoal and hid in the woods around the camp. Afterwards, we had the second annual Turtle Cup, which was won by York Chapter with a massive lead. Sunday morning saw the Annual Business Meeting of the Lodge. Two new patch designs were voted on by the members present for NOAC 2009 and the Lodge's 65th Anniversary. The patches will be online once we receive drafts from the patch company. After the patch voting came the much-anticipated Election of Officers. The position of Chief was narrowly won by Nate Smith in a 25-25 vote that had to be decided by the current Officers. Jarod White edged out Stephen Molina for Vice Chief in a 35-15 vote. Matt Allaire won Secretary by a landslide 47-3 over Greg Solomon, who went on to become Treasurer.

Treasure Island Camp Closed
Birthplace of the Order closed due to flooding, low attendance.

The Cradle of Liberty Council voted recently to close Treasure Island Scout Reservation. As posted on their website, "The Executive Board did not come to this decision lightly. The Council has been working diligently to keep the camp open since the two consecutive floods of 2005 and 2006. The cost of the camp, sharp decline in attendance since the floods, and the increasing environmental restrictions forced the board to reluctantly ratify the recommendation 35 to 1."
